Our Organization

The Marathon Yacht Club Educational Foundation, known as MYCEF, is a non-profit located in Marathon, Florida. With a nine-member board of directors, its purpose is to augment marine-related education opportunities for the local community. MYCEF is funded by local individual/business donors (85%) and tuition payments (15%). All funds raised stay in the community and go directly to our local activities.

MYCEF was established in 2013 to support boating activities, provide safe water education, and provide both college scholarships and adult continuing education scholarships to those going into marine-related fields. Available to the entire Middle Keys Community, our youth and adult sailing programs and online programs also help fund our youth programs.

Middle Keys Sailing Program

Our programs are reduced to $1 for the students of any local family struggling financially, no questions asked. Students are not required to have any affiliation with the Marathon Yacht Club. We teach safe water skills, sailing techniques, environmental stewardship, and community engagement through field trips, coastal cleanups, and connections with local marine professionals. Students have the opportunity to learn marine biology, ocean circulation and pollution, marine paleontology, and basic physics and hydrodynamics.

Community Partners

We specifically seek local at-risk and underprivileged students. For example, we advertise through the Florida Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Program and provide free, after school programs, summer camps, and on-the-water programs to the Hammock House to local elementary and middle school students. In just three summers, over 100 local students were taught both marine sciences and safe water skills through sailing.
